(Q45) 21 Jan 1997 - Mike Wright
Surnames: GRAHAM, NIGHTWINE,
OKESON, WRIGHT, YOUNG
I have ancesters who lived in Mercer Co., PA in the late 1800s. My
great grandfather's name was George Buryl OKESON. He
was b. Apr 29, 1861 in New Castle, PA, lived in Sharon, PA until 1896 when
he moved with his wife, Emma Jane YOUNG, and children,
Rose, Ada, Helen (my father's mother), and Hugh to Ashtabula, OH.
George and Emma were married May 1, 1885 in Hermitage, PA. He d. of
influenza in 1918 at the age of 57 in Ashtabula, Saybrook Co. OH. Emma
Jane d. in Ashtabula as well in 1931.
The OKESON family came from Norway but I don't know
when. As a matter for fact, I don't know much about George B.
OKESON's parents at this time. I know more about his
wife, Emma Jane. Her father was Hugh Bingham YOUNG
who was b. in Carlisle, PA, in 1832. He had three siblings; William,
Susan, and Joseph. I know Susan married a man named
NIGHTWINE in Mercer Co. and she was 8 years younger than
Hugh. Hugh married Rose Anna (or Rosanna) GRAHAM (b.
Mar 21 1834 in Mercer Co.) in place and date unknown (estimate 1852 to 1860,
maybe Carlisle, Sharon, Hermitage, PA, or Deerfield, OH). Rosanna's
father's name was James GRAHAM and she had brothers named
William and Joseph and a sister named Eliza. I don't know her mother's
maiden name. Hugh and Rosanna YOUNG had at least five
children: Levander, Evander, Sadie, Emma Jane and an unknown younger
sibling. I knew Sadie in the '60s when she was in her early
90's. Much of what I have written came from her by way of my
grandmother Helen Beryl (OKESON) WRIGHT.
If anyone is interested in following up on the OKESON
family, I would be interested helping defray the costs.
