Surnames: WEIR
I am attempting to find the burial place of George W.
WEIR who was born in Mercer Co. on the current line of
Lawrence/Mercer Counties in 1805. He or his son died in the Civil War,
the records are confusing. I am trying to identify who his father
was. The early records of Mercer Co. offer Robert or Samuel
WEIR as early settlers and the census of 1810 shows them
both with male sons under 10. I can't find anything out about them
other than some tax records and an oblique reference to George in the
Neshannock Presby. Church History. He doesn't show up buried in their
cemetery. The WEIR's were early settlers of Mercer
Co. and I would like to find my direct ancestor.
(Q80) 4 Mar 1997 - Gary C. Hill

SHAFFER
I am searching for info. on my HILL ancestry. I
have traced back to my gg-grandfather, William HILL, who

I. HILL, was b. 1832 in Maysville and moved to Hillsville,
PA shortly after father's death. He fought in a PA regiment in Civil
War. Since family mythology insists that Hillsville was named after
one of our ancestors, William may have lived there before moving to
Maysville. Hillsville is now in Lawrence Co. but may have been Mercer
at that time. Any help would be appreciated.
