Surnames: MAHAN
Have been researching the MAHAN family for over 12 years
planning on putting the MAHAN family together in book
form. James and Jane MAHAN were the parents of
William, James Jr., John, Wallace, Grace, Jane, Samuel, possibly Joseph and
Sarah Jane. James Jr. obit states he was b. 8/11/1811 in Mercer Co.,
PA and that the family came from PA to OH to IN, then to MO. They were
in the Wayne Co., MO census in 1830. There were also a William
MAHAN, William MAHAN Sr., and Jacob
MAHAN in the census. Legend states that a William
MAHAN came thru Shannon Co., MO with a hunting party of
Delaware Indians in 1879 and or 1899 then returned home and brought his
family back. They were the first white settlers of Shannon Co.
Does anyone have any info. on the MAHANs in Mercer Co.,
PA. Really need the marriage record of James and Jane before 1810 as
oldest son Wm. b. in Mercer Co 1810.
(Q105) 6 Apr 1997 - R. Paul Gookins
Surnames: HODGE, PORTER,
WAUGH
William PORTER and unk. wife were the second settlers in
Wilmington Twp. They arrived on foot in 1798 and purchased the house
built a year earlier by Wm. HODGE, who then removed to
OH. They soon returned to Westmoreland Co. and brought back their
children. The 1800 & 1810 censuses shows that the
PORTERs and WAUGHs lived very close to
each other. My earliest known PORTER relative, James,
married Rachel WAUGH, and in 1825 had my gg-grandfather,
John Waugh PORTER. William d. 9/28/1826 at age 63,
and is buried in Hopewell Cemetery, New Bedford, then Mercer Co. Does
anyone have info. on the spouse and off-spring of Wm.? Further info.
is that two Irish immigrant Wm. PORTERs were naturalized in
Mercer Co. in 1806 & 7. Someone might also have some info. on the
WAUGH gang that would show Rachels' family and the linkage
to James PORTER. James, by the way, d. in New
Wilmington between the 1850 & 1860 censuses; Rachel expired between 1870
& 1880. Thank you.

Surnames: McFARLANE
I have discovered my Great-Grandfather, Robert Alexander
McFARLANE, was supposed to have been b. Feb 21, 1841 in

would be extremely helpful. He married in OH on his way to
IL. Some first names in the family names are Bruce, Freddie, Ida
Belle, Harry and Minnie. May tie into a James
McFARLANE in Scotland. In trade, I occasionally go
the the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and I could return a
favor on my next visit this summer.

Surnames: DIXON,

Am searching for Benjamin STEWART and his wife Esther
(do not have a maiden name for her). They had a daughter, Della
STEWART, who was b. 23 Sep 1864 in Mercer Co. Della

STEWART. Are there any marriage or birth records
available for this time period? I was told by someone in the Mercer
Co. Office (several years ago) that records before 1893 were destroyed in a
fire. Does anyone have any suggestions about where to look for these
people? I have not searched the census yet - have just begun.
