Looking for McQUISTON and EDWARDS families from the Mercer Co. area.  Seeking parents names and place of birth for Dorothy Elizabeth McQUISTON, b. May 1846 in PA, d. aft 1900 in AR, and her husband, Edward EDWARDS, b. in Wales or England, moved to PA where he was a railroad engineer, d. Jan 1883 in a train accident.  Dorothy was 7 months pregnant with their child at the time of the accident and she moved to KS with her 3 brothers.  One brother was Joseph, b. 1860 in PA.  Dorothy and Joseph's parents were b. in PA too.  I believe that the train accident on Jan 8, 1883 in Chester Co., PA was the one which killed Edward, but I need more proof, such as newspaper accounts.  Dorothy gave birth in KS to a dau., May Florence EDWARDS, b. Apr 4, 1883.  May m. Calvin Leroy VAUGHAN and lived in Madison Co., AR.  Near her was her uncle, Joseph, and his family.  Dorothy lived in AR too and never remarried.  I need any info. on this family.

Eugene NOBLE; Sarah Cecilia MARSHALL, b. 11 Nov 1852 in PA, d. 11 Jun 1925, m. 1875 to Robert Thurston WELLIVER; Esther Ann MARSHALL, b. 1855 in PA, m. Jesse THOMPSON, b. 1835 in GA; and Frank M. MARSHALL, b. 10 Sep 1857 in IA, d. 15 Jul 1935, m. in IA to Mollie BROWN.  In 1860, this family was in Henry Co., NE.  The second family is James Smith MARSHALL, b. 1824 in Mercer Co., PA, son of William MARSHALL.  James m. in Greenville, PA to Sarah Rebecca EMERY.  They lived near Harrisburg, PA, moved to Lawrence Co., PA, and by 1869 were in Union Twp., Butler Co., NE.  Children: Frank, Mary Florilla, William Perry, Parker, Lewis, Charles, Elmer, Anna May, and Minnie Maude.  I am trying to connect these two families.  Were William and Taggert Joseph brothers?  Anyone with info. on either of these two families, please contact me.  Thanks.

This is an update on query Q362.  Have found more info. about the descendants of J.T. HIRST, b. 1810, d. 1886, and wife, Mary W., b. 1815, d. 1901, who were residents of Mercer Co. from bef 1850.  There is another grandchild, William S. HIRST, d. 1930.  Three of his sisters were married.  They were: Mace HIRST, m. LINDSEY; Gertrude HIRST, m. REED; and Jessie HIRST, m. WILSON, b. 1866, d. 1948.  Would like to correspond with anyone descended from J.T. HIRST or anyone researching any of his descendants.

Looking for descendants of John and Ann (GADSBY) BESTWICK.  On the 1850 census for Coolspring Twp., Mercer Co., PA, the following info. is given: BESTWICK John, age 33; Ann, age 28; Thomas, age 8; Mary, age 7; Sarah, age 5; and Moses, age 1/12.  I know that Thomas served in the Civil War and m. 1866 to Mary J. McEWEN.  They had 8 children, 6 boys, 2 girls: John, Charles, George, Thomas, Bert, Lester, Anna, and Jennie.  I would like to know what happened to the rest of the family and if there are still descendants in this area.  I am connected through the GADSBY side.  I also have a copy of a letter that Thomas BESTWICK sent to Thomas GADSBY in 1862 if anyone is interested.

Also looking for info. on Harriet GADSBY, b. 1835 in Mercer Co., PA, m. Samuel STRAIN.  The 1870 census shows them in Irwin Twp., Venango Co., PA with the following children: Mary Elizabeth, age 10; Frances, age 8; Jane, age 6; Ulysses Grant, age 5; and Letha Viola, age 2.  I would like to contact descendants and find out if there are any still in the area.  My connection is through the GADSBY line.

I have just learned that my wife's g-grandfather, Louis URSIN, came from Hungary to Sharpsville, PA in 1902.  He returned to Hungary in 1903.  In 1904, he moved to CT where he worked in the textile mills.  Does anyone have a guess about what Louis would have been doing in Sharpsville?  Was there some occupation that attracted foreigners at that time?  Thanks for any assistance/guesses you might be able to provide.

I am researching Rev. Gilbert McMASTER.  Gilbert and his family settled in Franklin Co. abt 1792.  I have found references that indicate he attended Jefferson College and practiced medicine in Mercer from 1805 to 1807.  He became a Presbyterian minister in 1807.  Gilbert had at least two children born while he was in Mercer.  Two of his sons were also Presbyterian ministers.  I would like to contact any Presbyterian churches that may have records dating back to that era.  Any info. on Gilbert or info. on Presbyterian churches in the Mercer area would be appreciated.

I am the direct descendant of David CHESS who came to northern Mercer Co. in 1797 with his brother, John CHESS, from Westmoreland Co.  After a few years, David CHESS returned to Westmoreland Co.  Would anyone have the year in which David CHESS left Mercer Co.?  Also, would like to know if there is a naturalization record for David or John?  Has there been an update of the "History of Mercer Co. Pennsylvania" written by Mr. J.G. White in 1909?  I had used it as a reference.

I am looking for the parents of the following people: John McKEAN, b. 1808 in Mercer Co., and his wife, Mariah (maybe BLACK), b. 1810 in Mercer Co.; and Thomas HENRY, b. 1791 in Mercer Co., and his wife, Eliza __?__.  I have them both as listed in the 1850 census of Lawrence Co.  They are buried on a family plot in Neshannock Cemetery in Wilmington Twp.  I also need the wives' maiden names and also any marriage records.  All were very active members of the Neshannock Presbyterian Church.  Thank you.

John D. WINGER, b. 1853, d. 1899, m. in Butler Co., PA to Nellie G. CROCKER.  They lived and raised their children in Mercer Co., near Sharon I believe.  I would appreciate any info. on them and their parents.  Their eldest son, Albert, was my g-grandfather and I have info. on his descendants but know nothing about the rest of the family.
