GROVE CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT 

Organized September 21, 1904 

Following are minutes taken from original records: 

Meeting of fire department for purpose of reorganization, with Chief Ruffing presiding. 

Nominations and election of officers made, resulting as follows:

ASST. FOREMAN No. 1        S. A. MAYERS

FOREMAN No. 2                 L. M. BOLANDER

ASST. FOREMAN No. 2        FRED MC COY 

Motion by Forrest, seconded by DeFrance, that the two Chiefs and the two foremen be appointed as a committee to draft a petition and present it to council, asking that necessary supplies be secured. Motion carried. 

Motion by Russell, seconded by Patterson, that for two months the departments meet each Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock. Motion carried. 

Motion Russell, seconded by DeFrance that the department have but one President, Secretary, and treasurer. Motion carried on

SEPTEMBER 28, 1904

Regular meeting of department with President Russell presiding. 

Chief Ruffing of apparatus committee reports that council had agreed to purchase another HOSE Cart, a hook & ladder truck, new hose, axes, crowbars, etc. 

Motion by Ruffing, seconded by Galbraith, that a ball game be played to raise money for the department. Motion amended that a foot ball game be played. Motion as amended carried. 

J. H. McClelland nominated and elected as football manager. 

Motion by McCoy, seconded by Neyman, that a committee of three be appointed to draft a CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS. Motion carried. Bolander, Neyman and DeFrance appointed as committee. 

Motion by Ruffing, seconded by Neyman, that each foreman or assistant foreman personally see the members of his company and learn their wishes as to retaining a membership in the department. Motion carried. 

Motion by Bolander, seconded by Galbraith, that the names of candidates for membership be presented and that it require a two-thirds vote to elect. Motion carried. 

Name of WILLIAM ALLEN presented, and ballot resulting favor able he was declared elected to membership. 

Motion by McCoy, seconded by FORREST, that the motion to have a football game be reconsidered. Motion carried. 

Original motion amended to read basketball instead of baseball. Motion as amended carried. 

Motion by Bolander, seconded by Nightwine that a benefit base ball game be played on Saturday, October 1, at 2:30 p.m. Motion carried. 

Motion by Neyman, seconded by Dunn, that the foreman of No. 2 appoint a captain of the No. 2 team. Motion carried. J. H. McClelland appointed. 

Motion by McCoy, seconded by DeFrance that S. E. Van Eman act as captain of No. 1. Motion carried. 

Motion by McCoy, seconded by Van Eman, that players and all others be charged admittance to the baseball game. Motion carried. 

Motion by Ruffing, seconded by DeFrance, that the gate keeper be appointed by the president. Motion carried. 

On motion adjourned.
