Hessian immigrant Johannes ZULAUF purchased 206 acres in Milford Twp., Mifflin Co. in 1802, and moved there with his eleven-member family. Before that he had lived in Berks and York Counties where his surname is found as ZULAUGH, SULOUF, SULAUF, etc. Within a decade after his move to Mifflin Co., the spelling of his surname settled down to SULOUFF and that spelling appears on his gravestone. Two of his sons continued using SULOUFF and two sons changed their surname to SULOFF.
