BOND, COLVER, FEHR, FISCHER, FRANZ, GAUER, GOWER, HOODMACHER, KEISER, MEISNER, STERNER, STURMM, WINTER posted by Dorothy M. Bond-Dittmer on Thursday, July 16, 1998

I have a question that has been bothering me for years. From the _Gower/Gauer Book_ by Irene Gower we find as a son of Nicholas GAUER, Johan George GAUER (b.2 May 1752) and his wife Maria Salome FRANZ. The book also has a remarriage for George GAUER to Susanna KEISER abt 1800, and all the children after that date belonging to her. I have no idea where this second marriage came from but it definitely was not as early as 1800 since George and Maria were still sponsoring births in the Hamilton Church as late as 1812 which is after all the children were born. I am assuming that she found another George Gauer's marriage. Now I am wondering if there are also listings for the children of George and Susanna? In other words, are the children she has listed after 1800, products of George and Susanna or of George (son of Nicholas) as the book states? If there are any Gauer/Gowers out there or anyone that has access to the Hamilton Church Records, I would appreciate a double check of this family. The children in question are: John (b.8 Mar 1788; chr. 13 Apr 1788, Hamilton Church, Sponsors: Michael & Margaretha STERNER) Ludwig (b.abt 1792) Michael (b.30 Oct 1796; Sponsors: Michael & Magdaline FISCHER) Maria (b.1799) After marriage of George and Susanna (KEISER) GAUER David (b.abt 1802) Elizabeth (b.abt 1804) Jacob (b.abt 1807) Peter (b.10 Jan 1808) Anthony (b.17 Dec 1809) My direct lines in Monroe County are: BOND, COLVER, FEHR, FRANZ (FRANTZ / FRANCE), GAUER (GOWER), HELLER, HOODMACHER, MEISNER, STURMM (STORM), and WINTER. Will exchange info with anyone working these lines. Also searching maiden name of Elizabeth ___ (b.abt 1810, Monroe Co, PA). She married Jacob GOWER abt.1827/30, probably at the Hamilton Church. We think she went with Simon and Anna (GAUER) BOND to Crawford Co, WI in 1863. We found her on the 1870 census there as Elizabeth SIGLIN. Apparently she remarried, probably before she left PA as there are a number of SIGLINs living by the BOND family. Do not know if she returned to Monroe County with the rest of the family. No death records for her in WI. This Elizabeth was supposedly of Indian origin. Anyone know anything about her?
