Looking for Monroe County links for family members that were in and around this part of PA. Recently found this about my GR GR GR grandparents and some descendants... This surname bounces around from Bucks Co, thru Monroe Co., into Lackwanna and Luzerne counties! Although these are quotes we know of some errors and those are bracketed. The Jeffersonian - DEATHS July 28, 1881 Mr. Robert W Kiple, died Tuesday morning of Heart disease, at Honesdale, Pa. Well known in county. He was born in Doylestown, Bucks Co., Pa. February 19, 1817, aged 65 years, at the time of death. On March 1st. 1846, he married Catharine, daughter of Simon Heller, of Hamilton. He leaves a wife and four daughters. His mother is still living, upwards of 90 years old. The Jeffersonian-DEATHS April 20, 1893 Mrs. Kiple died at Carbondale Apr. 10, 1893 at the home of her daughter Mrs. John Shafer. She was born in Hamilton Twp. Northampton (now Monroe) Co Dec. 12, 1794 & was 98 years, 3 months, 23 days. Her maiden name was Shafer (we believe this is a typo-maiden name should be BERRY/PERRY) and at 20 she married George Kiple, who died at Tobyhanna 1855. She resided at Dunmore 37 years. She had 5 children - Robert W; George of Wadnes, Iowa; (this should be Wadena, Iowa) Mrs. Wm. Ferguson of W. Pittston; Mrs. Sarah Van Horn of Dunmore & Mrs. John Shafer. Stroudsburg Times - DEATHS Oct. 18, 1900 Miss Wilhelmina Kiple daughter of the late R.W. Anyone know about the James TURPENRY who is on the 1840 Monroe Co. PA census (Lower Smithfield Twp p. 332)? Any chance he is TURPEN? and/or the same as James TURPENNY in 1830 Northampton Co. PA, Stroud Twp p. 175? Speculating he might be the father of Rebecca TAPPAN/TUPPEN who married Jacob Dietrick. Shirley Bogart Harper sharper1@home.com

HINKEL, HINKLE, KEIPER, SHOEN posted by Paula on Wednesday, August 25, 1999

Looking for anyone who might have information on the Hinkle surname. Jacob Hinkle born abt 1823 was my great great grandfather. He may have had brothers Daniel, Samuel and William. Their parents may have been George Hinkel and wife Esther Shoen. Jacob lived in Beaver Meadows, Carbon Co and Buck Mt. Carbon Co. I am not sure if those sections of Carbon county were ever part of Monroe Co. I am interested in corresponding with anyone else researching this name. Also the surname Keiper might connect to the line.
