Mystery of the MineIn December, 1873, the dead body of Bernard Westdossal was accidently discovered in an abandoned mine, between this place and Mausdale. The evidence of murder were plain and clear; but no clue to the perpetrator could be found, until years later when a man formerly of this place, was convicted of murder in a western State, who confessed the murder of Westdossal for the sake of his gold watch. Bernard Westdossal had been a lieutenant in the Prussian army, and made some progress in studying for the priesthood; but became reduced to circumstances, came to this country and was selling pictures at the time he was murdered.
