Military Order of the Purple Heart


                     

   Charles Kowalchuk



Charles Kowalchuk, loving husband and father, died on June 9, 2009 in Lehigh Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. As a highly decorated military hero in World War II, he was a- warded 2 purple hearts, a silver star, and a bronze star in recognition of dedicated service to his country.

He belonged to the following organizations: The Disabled Veterans (DAV); The Military Order of Purple Hearts, in which he served as the High Commander of Chapter 190 from 2002 to 2004; United Veterans of Wars of the United States, in which he served as president during 2003; Veterans of Foreign War in Northampton and Walnutport; and the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. In addition, he was an active volunteer at the Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Allentown.

Survivors: Brother Michael; wife Mary; daughters Bonnie, Wendy, and Lisa; son Kerry; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Services: Funeral services will be held in Reichel Funeral Home, 326 East 21st Street, North- ampton, on Saturday June 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. Call- ing hours will be from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service. Full military services will be held in Cedar Hill Memorial Park immediately following the funeral service.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations go to St. Pauls Anglican Church in care of Father Falzone.
