On Friday, May 30, 2008, Chapter 190 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart held Memorial Day ceremonies on the traditional date of Memorial Day in the Union and West End Cemetery.

The program was opened by Commander Mike Mescavage. The Color Guard posted the Colors followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Graydon Woods gave the Invocation. Commander Mike Mescavage introduced the guest. The Memorial Address was given by Everette Carr, who talked about the origin and history of Memorial Day followed by a description of the Union and West End Cemetery and its history. He pointed out that there are over 1,000 military veterans of all wars buried in the cemetery from the Revolutionary War through Viet Nam.
This was followed by the placing of the wreath , the rifle salute and the singing and playing of taps. Chaplain Woods gave the Benediction and the Colors were retired closing the ceremony.
