Memorial Day 2006

Chapter #190 holds Memorial Day Ceremony in Cemtery
On May 30, 2006, the members of Chapter #190 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart held Memorial Day Ceremonies in the Union and West End Cemetery. A large number of the members of Chapter #190 were in attendance along with the 2nd grade class of the local elementary school and a smattering of spectators.

Commander Chuck Jackson opened the ceremony by welcoming all in attendance. This welcoming address was followed by the 'Posting of the Colors'. The invocation was given by Chaplain Graydon Woods.

The Memorial Address was given by Mike Hunter, LTC, USAR (Retired).Colonel Hunter enlisted in the US Army in 1960, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1966. He served in the Federal Republic of Germany with the 24th Infantry Division and the 1st Armored Division. In 1967-68 he served in the Republic of Vietnam with the 864th Engineer Battalion. Colonel Hunter left active duty in 1971 and retired from the US Army Reserve in 1999.

The service included the 'Placing of the Wreath' bt Charles Kowlchuk and Dan McLaughlin. There was a rifle salute and the playing of taps by the Honor Guard followed by the Benediction by Chaplain Graydon Woods. The Colors were Retired and the ceremony on this solemn occassion was ended.
