Kirkpatrick, D.D. Born 9 January 1795, Board Mills, County
Down, Northern Ireland. Studied at the Belfast Collegiate Institution
under Rev. Dr. Bruce and then at the
Seminary in Glasgow, under Dr. Edgar and Rev. James Thompson, D.D. and
Ll.D. He was a Seceder Presbyterian minister, licensed by the Belfast
Seceder Presbytery. He remained there only a short time and went to
Westmoreland County, PA in 1819. Taught at Milton Academy, at Milton,
Centre County for a few years, then in 1838 became pastor of
Presbyterian church at Poke Run, now called Congruity. He continued in
the ministry for over 50 years, dying 5 January 1869. He and his wife
Eliza Kirkpatrick Kirkpatrick (she was a cousin to him) are buried
behind the church at Congruity.
