Rev. James Hood Lawther was born in Kittanning, Pa., October 4, 1871.  His boyhood days were spent on a farm near Whitesburg, Pa. After teaching and attending Edinboro and Clarion State Normals, he entered Grove City College, graduating from the same in 1898.  He then entered the Western Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1901.  He was ordained and installed pastor of Scrubgrass Church in connection with Allegheny Church, May 16, of the same year, having been Stated Supply at Allegheny the two years previous.
