The Bedford County Historical Society operates the Pioneer Library,
the county's most extensive collection of historical and genealogical materials. The society's Pioneer Library
serves as a repository for all types of historical information and welcomes donations of materials.
The Pioneer Library, open five days a week, has both paid staff and volunteers working to help library patrons
research family history, local and regional history and state history. The fee to use the library is $5.00 for the
first hour and $2.00 per hour thereafter. In addition, the society operates a genealogical search service for
those who wish to have a family line researched for them for a fee.
Library hours are:open 5 days a week: Monday through Friday,
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed on Major Holidays.
(We will make exceptions if we are contacted and an appointment is made in advance.)
 
Beginning in March, the Bedford County Historical Society/Pioneer Library will be open
the 3rd Saturday of every month, from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.
 
Winter hours: We will be closed in the event of unusually snowy days.

The Pioneer Magazine is a quarterly publication for members. It includes features on local history
and genealogy. The popular Queries column serves as a bulletin board for those searching their family
roots. Illustrations, post cards, old photographs and maps are also included.

publications and reprints of classic works.
 
 
Activities sponsored by The Bedford County Historical Society:
 
Annual Quilt Show - During the weekends of Bedford's Fall Foliage Festival, the Society conducts a
show and sale of quilts, raffling one new quilt designed by society members.

Historical Tours - Bus tours take members to historical sites throughout the region as well as on
"Know your own county" tours. Ask about the up-coming
 
Historian of the Year - Each year the Society recognizes an individual for their contribution to Bedford
