        Preliminary Search Service

The Pioneer Library offers a preliminary search service which includes ancestral and historical information from its own collection of histories and genealogical texts of current and past families from the area plus an examination of the Estate, Wills, Deeds, and Orphans’ Court records from the Bedford County Courthouse. A search is limited to one individual name. An experienced researcher will be assigned to your request and will remit results directly to you. You will receive a final written report which consists of a list of all findings and their citations. Copies of the cited materials will be included as part of the report if arrangements for such are made prior to the search. Also, you will be advised whether a detailed search would render additional useful information. Detailed searches are conducted on an hourly rate basis.

The Pioneer Library’s fee for a preliminary search is $60.00. Copies of cited materials and postage will be invoiced separately.

Suggested guidelines to facilitate a search:

Submit a long self-addressed stamped envelope for search reply.

Provide the full name of the person about whom you are requesting information.

Supply actual or approximate dates of significant events, such as birth, death, marriage.

Identify the municipality in Bedford County where the individual resided or has ties.

Furnish any relevant name/surname of parents, spouse, children, and extended family.

Please include a telephone number and email address, if you have one, to your correspondence.
