QUEEN ALLIQUIPPA CHAPTER

Chartered January 21, 1911

In 1911, the ladies who met to organize the McKeesport Chapter of NSDAR chose a name that reflected their love of history and also the strength of the woman, Queen Alliquippa. Queen Alliquippa

Queen Alliquippa was a chief of the Mingo Seneca tribe, highly respected by the Indian families under her rule, and by the traders and explorers who were beginning to come into the region. Her loyalties were with the British, rather than the French. George Washington wrote of his meeting with her, in 1773, at the confluence of the Youghiogheny and the Monongahela rivers, near present-day McKeesport.
