George had 3 other brothers who served in the war.  
Two 55th PVI, one captured, died in Richmond and the other wounded twice.  One in the 138th PVI.

          
George Gordon was born in Bedford County, PA, on January 17, 1838, the son of John R. Gordon and Elizabeth Dicken. George was a farmer by trade and
joined the Second Regiment of the Maryland Volunteer Infantry, Co. D, of the Potomac Home Brigade on March 15, 1864, at Cumberland, MD, as a private. It
was noted that he had blue eyes, light hair, and a fair complexion. He was 5 feet 9 ½ inches tall. Company D recruits were to serve a 1 year enlistment. This
company was involved in Hunter's Raid on Lynchburg, VA,
May 26-July 1, 1864. They continued fighting in western Virginia until the close of the war.
They were at Winchester, Martinsburg, WV, and Hancock,
MD, in July of 1864. After August, 1864, they served on guard duty in West Virginia until
May, 1865. George, along with the rest of his company, was
mustered out on May 29, 1865. George returned home to farming and married Mary Elizabeth
 Dicken in 1865. They had 6 children, the last born being my
grandmother Nora Blanche Gordon. Nora married John Messersmith, a son of George Messersmith.
George Gordon lived all of his life in Monroe Township,
Bedford County, PA, and passed away on March 26, 1926, at the age of 88. He
is buried in Rock Hill Cemetery, Monroe Township, near Mattie, PA.
