We just returned from there on our first visit to the area and met some of my husband's cousins for the first time. My father-in-law was born & raised there (Mahanoy City, New Philadelphia, Pottsville, Port Carbon) We did find the grandparents graves in St. Casimir's Cemetery, St. Clair. I have uncovered the full details of the Jacob Croll (who died in battle near Richmond, in the civil war) and is buried there. May be the stone m rked "J.C.", but also likely that he only got a wooden cross (very poor mother). How do I go about getting a marker errected to honor him? SECOND QUESTION: In same article, you state the Jonas Gottschall, who owed land where Foose/Gottschall cemetery is, was "son-in-law" of Conrad Foose. I am VERY active in this cemetery association. We "Foose's" know next to nothing about the whole Gotts hall line. Which of Conra's daughters was Jonas married to? And who might be able to help me with Gottschall history? Wheelihan and Julia Knowles Wheelihan had eight children who were baptised at Annunciation BVM Catholic Church. Julia and the eight children migrated to Grass Valley, California in 1884.
