Bill Connors - 08/02/98 08:34:38 Hometown: Stony Brook, NY Comments: Hi, I'm just beginning genealogical research of my family and learned that my great grandfather, George Dunn, came from Mahanoy City> Born in Ireland in 1852, he emigrated to the US as a young man and married a Catherine Cooney, working as mine foreman (I be ieve) in Mahanoy City until he and his family of 5 (later to be 7) children, moved to Waterbury, CT in 1890. I do know my grandmother, Margaret Catherine Dunn Connor was born in Mahanoy City in 1889 (and baptized at St. Canicus Catholic Church) and when oving (by train) to CT. at 1 yr. old, she was nearly kidnapped by a man who was caught and beaten senseless by my g-grandfather and some fellow passengers. I suspect I'll be back to visit your site as I continue my research. Thanks for being available... Bill Connors

My great grandfather, Thomas O'Rourke worked as a coalminer and was killed in a mining accident in the early 1880s. My grandfather was born in St. Nicholas around 1871. My great-grandparents are buried somewher in PA but I haven't been able to find any records of them.

I've been able to trace my family back to William Kehler(1854-1909). He is buried, along with 2 subsequent generations, in a cemetary in Eldred township. Any ideas on how to go back any further?
