Biographical Notes of Pine Grove, Pennsylvania

1841-1916

"A\" Surnames



THEIL, GEORGE, was born in Schuylkill Co. He was a graduate of Kutztown Normal School. He taught school at Suedburg. He taught the Pine Grove Grammar School for 10 years. He had one son and two daughters. Edwin lives in Lebanon. One daughter Stella is married to Mr. Stine and lives in Norristown. Jennie is married to Harry Seldel and lives at Allentown.

TRACT, U. R., came from the State of Connecticut. He located at Rattling Run on the S. and S. road, had charge of the saw mills for some time, then became Superintendent and moved to Rausch Gap and in 1860 moved to Pine Grove. He resigned the Supt. of the S. and S. in 1868, went to New York State, had charge of an Iron Ore mine and a short railroad. Stayed about a year, came back to Pine Grove. He was married twice, had two sons and one daughter with the first wife, Harry and Gordon. With his second wife, two sons and one daughter. Edward was married to Louisa Wheeler; Frank was single; Martha A., was married to Paul H. Barr.

TRACY, H. W., a son of U. R. Tracy came to this state with his father. He was a passenger train conductor for a number of years, was then paymaster till 1860 and Supt. He also lived at Rausch Gap, moved to Pine Grove in 1860. He was Supt. of the S. & S. & L. & T. division of the P. & R. R. R. till he died Oct. 31st, 1897. He had two sons and one daughter. Harry died young. George was clerk in the weight office at Pine Grove for some years, then went to Tamaqua and is clerking for some 15 years for the P. & R. Carrie is married to Charles E. Logan.

TRACY, GORDON, a son of U. R. Tracy, was a passenger conductor, lived at one time at Pine Grove, then moved to Tremont. He was married, had no children. He was afterwards employed by the Central Railroad of New Jersey.
