Georg Simon BRESSLER Georg Simon Bressler, after arriving in Philadelphia in 1749, farmed somewhere in the Tulpehocken township area of Berks county, PA. In 1767 he had taken land warantees on land over the Blue Mountains in Pine Grove twp., but he never made patent purchases on these lands. After the Revolutionary War, he bought lands on the Deep Creek in Pine Grove township and settled there. No record has been found of how George Simon acquired the 300 acres of land which he passed on to his sons - Michael, Philip, and John - in Pine Grove. The lnad records office in Harrisburg has no records of his buying patent lands - nor do the county deed records show that he purchased the land. At any rate, George Simon sold his land in 1794 to Michael Bressler. He and his wife sold it to his brothers Philip and John. John sold his parcel to his son, John Bressler, Jr in 1820; Philip and his wife, Margaret sold theirs in 1810. It may be that Georg Simon was an illegal occupant of the land, as land squatters were common then, developing and improving the land on which he lived. Assuming ownership, but not recording such in the county seats, those in possession later on when deeds were recorded found themselves without legal title. Often fifty years elapsed between conveyancing and recording. At any rate, none of the Bresslers probably found themselves on "the short end of the stick" as George Simon had died by 1802, Peter had left for parts unknown by 1810 (probably Union County) and John had bought patent lands in his own name in 1814. None of the early Bressler transactions had been recorded prior to this time. This was not intentional imsrepresentation - the rights of land squatters were commonly thought to be valid and no one questioned the legalities of the land acquisition. 18. Anna Catherine BALMER SOURCES: 1) Internet E-mail from Bill Buthker (WButhker@aol.com) on 10 Jan 1999 32. Valentine BRESSLER Valentine Bressler, citizen and inhabitant of Neiderhochstadt in der Pfalz, Germany, was a member of the Reformed Church, a sect growing from the proposed church reforms of Zwingli in Switzerland. It is possible that the Bressler family had come from Switzerland to escape persecution, only to find that the rapidly changing political structures of the Platinate brought with them various degrees of religious persecution. One of Valentine's sons married an OHLI, which is a family of Swiss orogin. One can only say that the Bressler immigration is a distinct possibility; there is nothing of fact to substantiata the supposition. Valentine Bressler had died by 1738 when his son Johannes (Nicholas) married Eva Maria OHLI in Niederhochstadt. Three sons of Valentin Bressler arrives at the port of Philladelphia on the ship "Lydia" out of Rotterdam and Cowes on 19 October 1749. As wives, women and children under the age of 18 were not recorded on the ship's lists, it is probable that others came with them. SOURCES: 1) Death Certificate of Valentin PRESSLER 36.
