Archibald Steel dec'd

in Pennsylavania Line for 2 years Continental

subscribed on the rolls of Virginia at the rate of 600 dollars per annum to commence 4th day of march 1831 and ending 19 Oct 1832 the day of his death, certificate of pension sent 17 day of Jan 1844 and sent to S L Palmer

Declaration--State of Virginia, county of Fairfax

in order to benefit of the act of June 7th 1832 13th day December 1843 personally appeared Sarah Palmer a resident of Fairfax County, state of Va

That according to the best of her knowledge Archibald Steel her maternal grandfather entered into service some time in the fall of 1775 as a Luut. in co commanded by Capt Smyth Col Thompson regt of Pennsylvana Line and in the attack upon Quebeck under the command of General Montgomery was wounded in the hand taken prisoner and declared as a prisioner of the city of Quebec about nine months for proof of this fact of his service references hereby made to his papers on file in the pension office in the year 1777 according to the best information and declaant the said Archibald Steele was appointed deputy quarter master General and thaat he continued to serve in that compacity until the close of the war

That the said Archibald Steele died 19 Oct 1832

- that he left surviving Jane late the wife of Samuel L. Palmer, who died the 5th Novemeber 1839 that she left three children Sarah the declarent, Archibald S. and Rachel,

also William Steel, Elizabeth Steel, & Mary the wife of William Barger, children of his son Mathias Steel
