  • Herman H. RING of LaPorte and Miss Alice M. MUCHLER, daughter of the officiating clergyman, married at the residence of the bride's parents in Cherry by Rev. C. H. Mutchler, Sept. 25th
  • Levi KISNER, of Cherry and Miss Emma KOLLER, of LaPorte married at the same time and place as above
  • Gordon F. MASON, one of the oldest citizens of Towanda, died Tuesday night. He was a brother of Judge Mason, of LaPorte
  • Miss Clara SMITH of Cherry is very ill with typhoid fever at the residence of her sister Mrs. BROSHART in Warren Co. Mrs. Broshart is also very ill
  • Willie MAC FARLANE, s/o James, died at his home in NJ, Sept. 19th, aged 20 years 11 days. He spent his summer vacation here for a number of years.

    12 Oct. 1882

  • Mary GILSON, a Towanda girl was shot at by her jealous lover about two weeks ago. He was arrested and placed in jail. On Saturday last she went to the jail in company with a JP and married him
  • Orvill STEELE and Miss Caroline GIBBS, both of Wilmot, Bradford Co., married at Dushore, Sept. 28th by Rev. R. S. Wagner
  • H. W. OSLER and Miss Sadie M. KING, both of Elkland, married at Forksville, Aug. 26th by A. Royse, Esq.

  • George SUBER and Miss Emma HOPKINS, of Cherry, were married a short time ago.

  • Timothy FLEMING, an old resident of Overton Twp., died on Sunday, aged 84
  • Mrs. J. W. WILCOX of New Albany died on Monday, of malarial fever, after a short illness
  • Charles KLINE, formerly of this place was married on 16th inst to Miss Mary PITCHER of Athens
  • Seymour GAREY and his brother George removed from this place to Texas a few years ago and purchased a tract of land near Gonzales, which they have since stocked. A few days ago they sold the land and stock for the snug sum of $20,200
  • Gilbert THORN and his wife and child of Susquehanna Co. were poisoned a few days ago by eating "toad stools" mistaking them for mushrooms. Mr. Thron died the next day and the others were very sick, but have recovered. "Towanda Journal"
  • Preston L. CRAWFORD of Colley Twp. and Miss Mary Caroline THRASHER of Cherry married on 18th inst, at the pastor's residence by Rev. G. L. Burson
  • Charles N. MEAD and Miss Ida Belle WHITACRE, eldest d/o Robert WHITACRE Esq., all of Muncy Valley, married at the residence of the bride's parents at Muncy Valley, 19 Oct. by Rev. A. P. Wharton

  • H. H. MACE an old resident of Towanda Twp. died last week
  • Mrs. HILL of Hughesville, formerly a Miss SWEENEY of Cherry, died on Saturday and was buried at this place on Monday
  • Frank FOX of Cherry and Miss Mary HARNEY of Albany were married at this place on Wed. last.
  • Mrs. B. R. JACKSON, who removed with her husband from this place to Mt. Clemons, Michigan about 2 years ago, died at the latter place on Oct. 31st
  • Patrick BRISLIN, an old resident and respected citizen of Cherry, died Wed. morning. Funeral held on Friday.
  • Gen. E. W. STURDEVANT, an old prominent citizen of Wilkes-Barre, died on Monday.
  • 9 Nov. 1882

  • W. W. MAGEE of New Albany, died on Monday of malarial fever
  • A little daughter has taken up her residence with Mr. & Mrs. Jeremiah DONOVAN of Cherry
  • W. J., of Bloomsburg, s/o Hon. C. R. BUCKALEW died on Nov. 1st
  • Mr. & Mrs. Frank CROSSLEY of Laporte, rejoice in the addition of a daughter to their family
  • William COOK, an old resident of Wilmot Township, died on Sat. and was buried at this place on Monday
  • Joseph B. SMITH, who had long been a resident of Monroeton died at his home in that place last Friday, aged 64 years
  • Hernry W. MADER, of Auderried, Carbon Co. married Miss Fannie WOLFRUM, formerly of this place, married at Catawissa on Oct. 29th
  • C. KINNEY, of Cherry Twp. died on Tuesday
  • The funeral of Mrs. B. Rush JACKSON at Kingston was attended by R. J. Thomson and Mrs. James Thomson of this place on Friday
  • The 3rd inst was the 57th birthday of our townsman, R. M. WELLES Esq., and his five brothers surprised him: Rev. H. H. Welles, Kingston; M. H. Welles, Elmira; G. H. Welles, Wyalusing; Edward Welles and John Welles of Hollenback, Wilkes-Barre

    16 Nov. 1882

  • Cornelius WHEELAND of Loyal Sock Twp., Lycoming Co. tried to commit suicide on Sunday, 6th, by hacking himself in the head with an axe, while temporarily deranged. The physician who is attending him thinks he will recover
  • F. H. MC CARTY and Miss Louzine ROGERs, d/o Jonathan, married at the home >of the bride's parents Oct. 26th by Rev. G. L. Paine, all of Elkland

  • Mr. & Mrs. Jerry DEEGAN, of the Dushore House, have an addition to their family, a daughter
  • A. F. CAMPBELL, a resident of Athens aged about 45, committed suicide on Friday by taking laudanum
  • Frank LOWRY and Miss Mary HARRINGTON of Bernice were married by Rev. Father Walsh, at this place on Sunday
  • Michael BYRON of Overton and Miss Bridget JORDAN of Laporte were married by Rev. Father Walsh at this place on Tuesday
  • Mrs. Jane GRANGE of Elkland died a short time ago, aged 93 years. She was one of the early settlers of that township. Her husband died about 25 years ago
  • Mr. & Mrs. George E. WILCOX, of Bernice are happy over the addition to their family of a bouncing boy
  • Burleigh J. AREY and Miss Hattie A. FRUTCHEY, both of Wilmot, Bradford Co., married at the pastor's residence in Dushore on Nov. 19th by Rev. G. L. Burson

  • Michael MEEHAN was killed in a drunken brawl at Sunbury last Thursday by John KELLY
  • David EVANS, 70, of Kingston, suicided last Wednesday by shooting. He left a note saying he died a fearless atheist
  • Benjamin KNELLER and Miss Hettie HIEBER of Cherry were married Nov. 21st
  • Harrison COMSTOCK, ex-sheriff of Wyoming Co. died at his home in Lovelton last Thursday
  • William HARTZIG, an old resident of Cherry Twp., died on Sunday, funeral on Tuesday at Germany Church

  • Terrytown – Henry HILEMAN was called to Sullivan Co. last week by the death of his father in law, Wm. HARTZIG
  • Ed LAMOREUX, of this place clerk at a store in Ithaca for several years past, took a large dose of laudanum in that town on Friday with suicidal designs. He had been discharged for drunkenness. It was 2 hours before he was discovered. He was, after great exertion resuscitated, but it was thought he could not recover. He is the son of Isaac LAMOREUX, and is about 28 years old.   • Mrs. Sarah KEELER of Laporte Twp., died Nov. 15th aged nearly 79 years
  • John H. SCOTT, 80, an old resident of Monroe Twp., Bradford Co. died Thursday
  • Mrs. DEEGAN, widow of late sheriff DEEGAN, died at the residence of her son in law, F. P. DUNN in Cherry on Sunday of pneumonia
  • Miss Agnes, d/o Mr. & Mrs. John WALSH, of Cherry, died on Friday of consumption and was buried at this place on Sunday.
  • The wife of Wm. MIDDAUGH of Sheshequin, and five children are sick with diptheria "Daily Journal 1 Dec"
  • Luther W. BARTLETT and Miss HIGBY were married at Monroeton on 20th inst.
  • George S. HARTZIG and Miss Emma M. FULMER, both of Cherry were married on 5thinst. At the house of the bride's father in Cherry by Rev. C. H. Mutchler
  • Benjamin V. KNELLER and Miss Hattie HEBER, both of Cherry were married at the residence of the bride's father, in Cherry, Nov. 21st by Rev. R. S. Wagner

    14 Dec. 1882

  • The silver wedding of Mr. & Mrs. Charles KISNER will be celebrated on the 16th inst
  • Reuben MOUREY, a young man, was killed on Saturday 2nd in Locust Twp., Columbia Co. by the accidental discharge of his gun while out hunting
  • Margaret GLANCY was found at her home in Wilkes-Barre on Sunday dead with a terrible gash in her head. It is reported that she had considerable money. Her death is a mystery
  • Sonestown – The widow STROUP is very ill with consumption

    21 Dec. 1882

  • H. B. INGHAM of Camptown died of typhoid fever Thursday night aged 58 years. His eldest daughter, aged 18 died a few weeks ago with the same disease
  • Lewis SNYDER, of Wysox, died on Sunday. Mr. Snyder was formerly a resident of Cherry Twp. His remains were brought to this place for burial on Wed.
  • Mrs. Dorathea HESS, widow of the late Christian HESS of Elkland, died at her residence in that place on Tuesday the 12th inst., after a very short illness, aged nearly 70 years
  • O. S. BATTIN, of Fox, died after a short illness a few weeks ago. He was a young man.
  • Truman FARR, s/o A. K., of Forkston, met with a painful accident last week while working in a sawmill at Forkston, by a piece of edging striking him in the eye, knocking it out. A physician was called and the ball of the eye placed back in but it is said the sight is lost "Tunkhannock Democrat"
  • On Monday Cornelius COLEMAN of Asbury, this county, was buried. He was about 80 years of age. After the burial service, when the family of Abram Coleman who was a brother of Cornelius, returned to Orangeville, where he resided, they found him dying. He was about 60 years of age. The two were brothers of Mrs. Jesse Coleman of Ashland, formerly prothonotary of this county "Bloomsburg Republican"

    28 Dec. 1882

  • Col. Julius W. MASON, formerly of Towanda, died of appoplexy, last week, in Arizona Territory, where he was stationed
  • Gordon H. FRINK, who was a clerk in the old Ward house at Towanda for a number of years, died of lock-jaw, at Lincoln Nebraska, last week
  • The silver wedding of Mr. & Mrs. Chas. KISNER on 16th inst.
  • Fred NEWELL, formerly of this office and Miss Sallie FAIRCHILD of this place were married at the residence of the bride's father, Judge Fairchild, on Dec. 21st.
  • Eugene KILMER, of Fox, was married lately to Miss Antonelle WHIPPLE of McNet, Lycoming Co.
  • Chester LAWRENCE, formerly a resident of this place, who now lives at Chester PA was married a few weeks ago to a lady of Brooklyn NY
  • Simon R. KUNES, of Cherry met with a shocking accident at Cherry Mills on Saturday afternoon, resulting in his death. He and his son, Thomas, were returning from this place with a load of coal for Mr. Hallock. While the young man was unloading the coal the horses became frightened at the report of a gun and ran, Mr. Kunes who was standing near, attempted to intercept the team at the bridge which crosses the Little Loyal Sock, just below Hallock's mill, he failed to stop the team and was thrown down the embankment some twenty feet, striking on his head, killing him instantly. Dr. Herrmann was summoned but life was extinct. He leaves a wife and a number of children. Funeral services were held at Overton on Tuesday.
  • Geo. E. TAYLOR of Muncy Valley and Mrs. Margaret ROSS of Wilmot, married at the residence of Mr. C. Lisson in Wilmot, 25 Dec, by Rev. R. S. Wagner
  • Gotleib HELKNER of Berniece and Miss Susanna STRUTH, of Cherry, were married at Dushore on Dec. 16th by Rev. R. S. Wagner
