- James T. DODSON, who left Town Hill so
unceremoniously about a year ago, was a
victim of the late cyclone. His house was
blown at atoms, and it is supposed that
he and his family perished as nothing has
been heard from them since. (Shickshinny

10 July 1879
- La Porte Mrs. MEYLERT, mother of
Michael MEYLERT Esq. and William MEYLERT
Esq., of this place died. She had reached
the ripe age of 89 years. The funeral was
held on Wednesday the 9th, in the
Mountain Ash Cemetery.

July 1879
- William A. ROCKWELL, a respected citizen
and merchant of Towanda, died at his
residence on Monday last after an illness
of several months duration. The funeral
will take place on Wednesday from the
residence of his brother, Mr. Roland R.

- La Porte - The funeral of Mrs. Secku
MEYLERT was largely attended.
24 July 1879
- Enoch BENNETT, 13, was drowned while
bathing in Sugar Creek, near Towanda on
Wednesday last. He was upon a plank with
another boy, paddled out into the deep
water, where he fell off, and not being
able to swim, was drowned (Journal)
- Edward HUGHES, who kept store on the hill
some 25-30 years ago died. From Cherry he
removed to Cambra, Luzerne Co., where his
death occurred on the 10th. He was about
62, leaves a wife and two sons.
31 July 1879
- Hattie, twin daughter of Daniel and
Lizzie PEALER died Wednesday night. The
infant was 5 months and 4 days old and
had apparently never been in good health.
- Little Fred WEISS fell from grandfather
REESER'S second story porch on Sunday
evening and received a severe contusion
on the head. Dr. Herrmann was called and
the boy is all right again.
7 August 1998
- Mrs. Ruth Ann CONYNGHAM, widow of late
Judge CONYNGHAM, died yesterday morning
at her residence in Wilkes Barre, in her
80th year. Her funeral was held on
Saturday afternoon.
- William DEEGAN reached the acme of human
happiness on Thursday when his spouse
presented him with a boy.
- Colley Martin & Reeser will
start their saw mill next week.
14 August 1879
- W. Bradley KOONS died at the Bristol
House, Wilkes Barre, Monday morning, aged
49 years. The body was brought here Wed.
morning and conveyed thence to the
Huntington Mills church where the funeral
was held. Interment took place
immediately after at Scott's Cemetery
near Waterton (Shickshinny Echo 8th)

- Mrs. Ellen ALLEN died in Scranton on
Monday at the age of 105. She was a
cousin of O'Donovan-Rosa, the Fenian
exile, and of William Philip Allen, one
of the "Manchester martyrs."
