AYRES, CRANDELL, PARSONS posted by Roger Crandell on Tuesday, March 17, 1998

I am searching for the names of the parents of: Orin Beadle CRANDELL born 13 August 1804, Hamilton, Madison County NY. Died 19 Dec. 1884, Scandia, Republic County KS. We have done extensive research in New York and found nothing about his birth. We know all locations where he lived after 1829 until his death. We have located all living descendants. We have his obituary. With all of that, we have found nothing about his family. What we learned from Orin's obituary was that he was baptized into the Methodist Church in 1825 by Reverend John C. AYRES. The location of the baptism was not given. Orin moved to Switzerland County Indiana in 1829. Aside from his birth location, we have no documentation of his whereabouts prior to 1829 except the baptismal information. What we have learned about John C. Ayres is the following: John C. Ayres Born 21 Feb. 1804 Berks County PA. Converted in 1823, joined the Methodist church in 1824 Admitted to the Pittsburgh Conference in 1827 Pittsburgh Conference covered approximately the western 5/8 of PA. Married Mary C. PARSONS 14 November 1828 First son William Mack born 24 July, 1829 in Centre County PA. Rev. Ayres appears on the 1830 federal census, Armstrong County PA. P213, ReBank Twp. Rev. Ayres' father's name is not known I found no Ayres surnames on the 1800 or 1810 or 1820 Berks County Census. Because we don't know Rev. Ayres' father's name we can't locate him on the 1810 or 1820 census. We have concluded this information regarding Rev. Ayres indicates that Orin Crandell was in Pennsylvania in 1825. Hopefully he was living with his parents.
