NOTE: The 1936 Plan begins just East of the Intersection of Rt. 519South (and Road to Glyde) and Rt. 40East. The 1941 picks up from just above, East of, the Intersection of Rt. 519South and the Road to Glyde [LR63076), proceeding East to Odell, PA before Scenery Hill PA. But, for correct orientation and progression of landowners, you'll need to read from the bottom of the 1936 page's names (from Village of Pancake, PA - aka Laboratory exit on current I-79S) and then end at Charles Ross and John Duvall in the East. In addition, the right-left sides on the 1936 and 1941 appear "flipped". As an example, I know Charles Ross owned land on both sides of Rt. 40E on Egg Nogg Hill and that John Duvall and P. C. Gween owned just above Charles F. Ross on the southside (i.e. right side) of Route 40 EAST. But the orientation of the 1941 map and apparent sale of Joseph Ross land on the south makes it harder to understand the 1941 map-- which now shows Riggle on the bottom and Ross on the top. Be aware of this, and the fact that the 1936 plan starts at 519 S intersection of Rt 40E and proceeds WEST on Rt 40 to Pancake PA... while the 1941 Plan starts at 519 S intersection of Rt 40E and proceeds EAST on Rt 40 to Odell PA before Scenery Hill PA.

SOURCE: 1941 "Pennsylvania Department of Transportation [PennDOT] Drawing [Plans] for Construction and Condemnation of Right Away Route No. 113 [Now Rt. 40] Section No. 14 in Washington County PA From Sta. 369+0000 To Sta. 447+50.000 - Final Length 5150.00 Ft. 0.9754 Miles - Final Surface Measurement: 5252.50 0.9759 Mile - Project No. SN-FA 930-A (1) (1942) Final". These plans were prepared prior to 'straightening' major curves of the original Federally owned road, which was transferred to the control, management and upkeep of U.S. Route 40 a.ka. The National Pike. The changes/straightening of Rt. 40 left numerous "pieces" which later were either re-named as township roads, or pieces which dead-end.. Some pieces dead-end on both sides that used to be Rt. 40, with the middle piece re-absorbed into the current landholder's acreage.
This webpage documents the landowners on both sides of The National Pike, Rt. 40, from the "1941 Drawings For Construction and Condemnation of Right of Way Final Route No. 113 Section No. 14; Project No. SN-FA 930-A (1) (1942) Final" from file named "6200400330001.TIF".
The original files were over 27Megabytes. They have been reduced for this website but are still quite large.
The 6-sheet plan for SR 0040 from 1941 picks up where the 1936 plan stopped (about at Egg Nog Hill on Rt. 40E) and goes eastward to Odell PA, i.e. East toward Scenery Hill.
