Location: From the junction of Rt. 88 & 136 in New Eagle, Washington Co., go west 3.6 miles - turn left - go 1.2 miles from intersection to red dog road on right - go .2 miles up red dog to find the cemetery located on top of a knoll on the right.
Background: The land for this cemetery and church (which no longer exists) was sold to the Presbyterian and German Lutheran Societies on 18 Jan. 1800 by Christian Stockers
(Stacher). In the yard of this old church is a plaque on a granite monument that reads "On this site the First Lutheran Conference west of the Allegheny Mountains convened Oct. 18, 1812. This was the first of a series of annual conferences that led to the organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and other states at Somerset, O. Sept. 14, 1818. Unveiled 31 Aug. 1924. Erected by the Historical Society of the Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and other states."
Census: A census of the standing stones was taken in 1982 and is published in "Miscellaneous Cemeteries, Washington Co., PA", Vol. 5, 1984. Copy in the collection genealogical collection at Citizens Library.
