Cemetery Name: First Lutheran Church Recommittal Vault 

Address: N. Franklin & W. Walnut Sts., Washington, PA 15301 (church Address: )

Location: The cemetery was dug up in 1924 and the 373 remains were sealed in a vault in the church basement. The tombstones that were still intact make up the vault wall. 

Background: The cemetery was originally located where the present church sits. It was next to the original church. The church was founded in 1798 by early settlers of the German Lutheran and Dutch Presbyterian Church. The first burial was on Sep. 29, 1817 and the last burial was on Oct. 3, 1892.  This cemetery would have been to the rear and left of the J.F.K. Elementary Catholic School building which sits behind the former Immaculate Conception High School.

More Information: Among the early ministers of the church were Rev. Johannes Stauch (1798-1816); Rev. John Mahenschmidt (1811-1812); Rev. G. A. Wenzel (1883-1895); Rev. C.H. Hemsath (1900-1905)' Rev. Morris Smith (1907-1916); Rev. Harry B. Ernest (1922-1949) Rev. Reginald E. Dozer and Rev. Kenneth N. Schott.
