HAZELKIRK (Van Voorhis) CEMETERY

 Contributed by Linda Vourlogianes

The Hazelkirk (Van Voorhis) Cemetery is located in Hazelkirk, Carroll Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, 1/4 mile south on Shannon Road. The cemetery is on a hill to the east of this road. It is high on a hilltop overlooking Hazelkirk. Coming from Monongahela, take LR route 62175 west, then LR 62016 (bears to the right former LR 62175). This will lead you into the village of Hazelkirk. Cemetery may be seen from the eastern approach to the village - south side of the road.

"History of Washington County, Pennsylvania," Boyd Crumrine, page 695:

Van Voorhis family - "A spot of ground was selected by Daniel Van Voorhis overlooking Pigeon Creek long ago for his remains and those of his kindred. Four generations of the name are in that cemetery, incorporated and made perpetual by the laws of the land."

The Census of this Cemetery has been taken at least three times. These records have been combined and placed here.  The dates the different Census were completed are:
March 1962 - Walter Hoffman for Mrs. Virginia Naser, Mon Valley Chapter, DAR.
20 March 1962 - Mrs. Margaret Colvin of Charleroi, Pennsylvania, who has added some family information (bracketed).
Checked the above lists in the cemetery March 1971 by Mrs. Irene P. Lignian.
