Cemetery Name: Horseshoe Baptist Cemetery

Location: On Rt. 837 (off Rt. 88) between Charleroi and Monongahela in Carroll Twp., Washington Co., PA.

Directions:  Take Rte. 88 North from Charleroi up Craven Hill to the junction of Rte 837 to the traffic light in front of the Giant Eagle (on left) and turn right on Rte 837.  Go just a little ways, look to your right and you will see the lot right next to the road with the existing grave stones.

Background:  The Horseshoe Baptist Cemetery was built first in 1790 on land formerly owned by Abraham Frye.  The land for the church and cemetery was sold to the Regular Baptist Society by Abraham and Esther Frye on Sep. 8, 1810, after which, in 1810 a brick church replaced the original log structure, and for seventy years the members worshipped here.  In 1880 that church was torn down and members joined Monongahela Baptists. The cemetery which adjoined the church has been preserved in its original form. A Revolutionary War soldier, Captain George Grant, his wife Mary Worth, their families, Rabe, Colvin, Frye, Carson, Fisher, and many others whose stones have been destroyed are buried here."  Erected by the Mononagahela Valley Chapter DAR
May 11, 1974.

Census: Published in "Miscellaneous Cemeteries, Washington Co., PA", Vol. 5, 1984. Copy in genealogical collection at Citizens Library in Washington, PA.
