Background: The Mount Pleasant Cemetery was established by the Mount Pleasant United Presbyterian Church sometime between 1790 and 1800 as a graveyard beside the church. (The United Presbyterian churches were also called Seceder Churches.) After mergers of the church with other Presbyterian churches, in June of 1969, it was agreed that title to this cemetery be turned over to the Mount Prospect Cemetery Association. The final deed transfer is dated Sep 01, 1971, so now title, as well as the responsibility for the maintenance of this graveyard rests with the Mount Prospect Cemetery Association.

Census: Published in "Mt. Pleasant Cemetery" by A.D. White, 1976. Copy in genealogical collection at Citizens Library, Washington, PA.  Census also done by ladies of the DAR.

More Information: The data presented here is from current sexton files as well as old records found in A.D. White's book, plus data collected by the DAR found in the genealogy section of the Washington PA library. The listing is current through Dec 2009.

Note: The numbering is not any reference to the cemetery records, if any exist at all.  Instead, the numbering is only a count on this alphabetical list.  Also, this file was made on Excel which starts number 1 above the first entry, so the numbering is one 'off'; there are 816 names instead of 817.
