Background:  This church (Methodist Episcopal), originally called the "Tucker Meetinghouse," was organized in 1824, by the Rev. Thomas Jamison.

A plot of land was purchased by John Tucker, situated on the Pittsburgh and Steubenville turnpike midway between Florence and Paris, and a stone meeting-house was built, which has been in use to the present time. According to the DAR records, the ground on which the church and cemetery stands was a "linsy-woolsy" purchase bought from the Indians for a shirt of home woven linen and wool. The land was donated by John Tucker for the church and cemetery.

Census:  This data was collected by the DAR and found in the genealogy section of the Washington PA library. The data is from 1937 so the burial records are not complete.

Published in "Miscellaneous Cemeteries, Washington Co., PA", Vol. 3. Copy available in genealogical collection at Citizens Library and Washington Law Library, Washington, PA.

More Information:   The Chestnut Ridge Cemetery is on the opposite side of the road from the Tucker Methodist Episcopal (Stone) Cemetery.
