First Christian Church of Washington

Church records transcribed by Mrs. Martha Lacock Nicholl, deceased, late of Washington, PA 
Mrs. Nicholl presented the church with two notebooks she had prepared on the church's history. 
One notebook is held by the church in Washington PA; 
the second notebook is held by the Disciple of Christ Historical Society in Nashville, TN.

PAGE FORTY-ONE:

At a meeting held by Br. J. F. ROWE commencing the second week in Jan. 1871 and continuing over the Lord's days (sic, plural) the following persons were immersed and received into the church viz.  [Table added by webmaster.]

Lucy STEEB?, John BRADDOCK, James STREATOR, Frank KEENY,
Mary HOWELS,  George LOYD,  Uretta HUTSON Sarah KALE,
Eliza KALE,  Kali KALE,  William PLYMIRE,  John PLYMIRE,

Restored Sarah LOYD, George MARTIN.

Mar. 1871

George McCASKEY and wife and William GREER granted letters of recommendation.

Feb. 1872

The former board of Trustees continued.

Feb. 1873

The former board of Trustees continued another year.

Feb. 1874

The former board of Trustees elected another year.

Feb. 1875

The old board continued.

Br. CHALLENER having received and accepted a call of the church to serve as Pastor for one year at $1200 commenced his labor the 2nd Lord's day in March 1871.

(Sept. 1871)

Br. CHALLENER left Sept. 1871 on account of his wife's illnefs (sic) and were granted letters of commendation.

April 1st 1872

Br. W. T. GOODLOR haveing (sic) accepted a call as Pastor of the church commenced his labor, being engaged for one year for Fifteen hundred dollars.

The following persons (were) immersed by Br. GOODLOR,  [Table added by webmaster, right to left.]

Emma COOKES, Mary BRISTOR, Joseph GRIFFITH, Alice LONGDON

 

Received by letter Mrs. Mary SMITH.  

(Space added).  Dismifsed by letter G.W. HAMILTON and wife, Frank Griffth [see Wolf].

(Space added).  Restored George McCaskey.

Br. Leander BROWN having accepted a call of the church commenced his labors 1874.

Br. BROWN and wife received into the church on letters of recommendation.

George LOYD, George MARTIN and George KEENY excluded.

Apr 12th 1874

Susie LACOCK and Ida LONGDON who were immersed by Br. BROWN (and) received into the church.
