First Christian Church of Washington

Church records transcribed by Mrs. Martha Lacock Nicholl, deceased, late of Washington, PA 
Mrs. Nicholl presented the church with two notebooks she had prepared on the church's history. 
One notebook is held by the church in Washington PA; 
the second notebook is held by the Disciple of Christ Historical Society in Nashville, TN.

Rosie LONGDON received into the church.

Aug. 31st, 1874

A. C. STREATOR, Jas. R. STREATOR and Samuel HUTSON having for some considerable time neglected the regular meetings of the church and also walking disorderly in other respects, having been admonished and labored with in order to induce them to return and attend to their priviledges and duties as memberf (sic=members) of the church.  But giving no evidence of repentence or amendment for the future it was therefore resolved that we withdraw from A. C. STREATOR, Jas. R. STREATOR and Samuel HUTSON.

Br. Jas. R. BARBER received on letter of commendation.

Sept. '74 (1874)

Campbell HUGHES and William CHAMBERS immersed by Br. BROWN received into the church also A. B. GRIFFITH.

Sept. 6th (1874)

Sydney CHAMBERLAIN dismifsed by letter.

Sept. '74 (1874)

Mrs. Eliza MURDY received by letter.

Oct.  '74 (1874)

Erastus AMES and wife received from Pleasant Valley by letter of commendation.

Oct.  1876

An election was held for trustees of the church in Washington which resulted in election of John C. HASTINGS, John _____, James McDERMET, David McCLAY, John HUGHES.

Feb. 1877

On motion the same board was continued.

Feb. 1878

The above named persons elected for the year 1878.

Feb. 1878

A. C. STREATOR, Jas. R. P. STREATOR restored to membership in the church.

Urulta HELMS excluded from the church for immoral conduct.

May 14, 1877

Br. L. HAYDEN (W. L. HAYDEN, the W. is stuck in above the name, to the right of the L.) commenced his labor as pastor of the church in Washington.

Br. W. L. HAYDEN and wife received on on letters of commendation from the church at Canton, Ohio.

Br. Grandison SHERMAN and wife received on letters of commendation from same.

Sister Annie WALBOLDT received in letter of commendation from Canton, Ohio.
