Washington County PA

From time to time
(rarely), I will look-up a few records
for a family not related to me. I am too busy to do look-ups very often. I decided to share some of
the searches here that I've done.

Joseph and Marcella Piontka FAMILY, in Elko PA Washington County PA
Background: The request came in an email.
mike.piontka@comcast.net writes:
... I was looking for information on Elko, Pa., where my father was born and raised. His name was John Piontka. He was born Nov. 25, 1918 to Joseph and Marcella Piontka in Elko. He served in WWII as an operating room sergeant in north Africa and Italy during the war. He was good friends with Berky Obitko, and Tiny Platikus. As a child, I remember going to visit my grandparents and aunts and uncles at the home of my Grandparents. I believe that their home was located at the intersection of Forsythe way and route 88. As kids, our fathers used to take us across Rt 88 and the tracks to Gabricks tavern for grape ne-hi pop. I have more information on my father, but not in hand at this moment. If you would like more details of his military career, life, and death, please email me...
Perhaps you may be able to help me in my search for information on Elko during the 40s and 50s.
INFORMATION FROM MY LOOK-UP SEARCHES
My searches were limited to US Federal Census.
Joseph Anthony Piontka
Birth Date: 8 Jan 1883
RESIDENCE: Washington, Pennsylvania
Birth: Lithuania
Roll: WW2_2139505
Note regarding the images for the states of PA, MD, WV, and DE. These four states were scanned at the National Archives facility in such a way that the back of one person’s draft card appears on the same image as the front of the next individual. The result is that when you click to view the original image, you will see the correct front side of the draft card, but the back of the previous soldier’s card. Ancestry is aware of this problem, and is working to correct this issue.
