WELL KNOWN WOMAN DIES IN CLAYSVILLE

Mrs. Joseph S. Carroll Victim of Cancer at Age 77 Years---Woman of Excellent Christian Character

Claysville, Dec. 11.—Mrs. Rebecca Owen Carroll died in her home in Claysville Tuesday, December 11, 1928, at 9:40 a.m. of cancer of the liver, aged 77 years, nine months, seven days. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. James Jackson of Claysville R. D. 2. William A. Carroll, Claysville, and Gilbert M. Carroll, Washington.

She was a member of the Claysville Missionary Alliance church [sic] of Washington, and an excellent christian [sic] woman. She will be missed by a host of loving friends outside her immediate family. She was united in marriage to Joseph S. Carroll more than 53 years ago and they lived happily together for more than 50 years. He preceded her two years ago. She was a daughter of Aaron and Maria Owen, of Nebo, Greene county [sic] and is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Albert, Addison and Brady Owen of Nebo, Greene county [sic]; Mrs. Emily Dinsmore, of Moundsville, W. Va.; Mrs. Frank Louage, of Washington; Mrs. Jean Haggerty, Wilkinsburg.

Services will be held in the Claysville Methodist Episcopal church [sic] in Claysville Thursday at 2 p.m., conducted by a nephew, Rev. Judson Headley of Castle Shannon, assisted by Rev. A. D. Eberhart, of the Methodist church [sic] of Claysville. Interment will be in the Washington cemetery [sic].

Note from Lou: While we may not be positive of the actual date I am confident her birth month & year is March 1851:

The 1860 (6/8/1860), 1870 (8/9/1870), 1880 (62/21880) & 1910 (4/28/1910) US Census yield a calculated birth date of 1851.
The 1900 US Census (6/15/1900) indicates March 1851.

Rebecca (Owen) Carroll's obituary indicates : "aged 77 years, nine months, seven days". This yields a calculated birth date of March 4, 1851.
