John F. Strain, son of Peter and Mary Ann Fought Strain, was born in Jackson, Ohio, June 20, 1853 and departed this life at his home near Primrose January 22, 1915 aged 62 years. Deceased was the last of a family of five children, four sisters having preceded him. He was united in marriage with Anna Gordon in 1874. To this union four sons were born, of whom three, together with his wife, survive. The surviving sons are John C. of East Pittsburg; George of Rennerdale and James of near Primrose.  Will passed to his reward on July 28, 1908. Mr. Strain was left an orphan when a youth. Soon after the death of his mother he left the home of his birth and came to Washington County, Pennsylvania, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended the means of grace until prevented by failing health. He was always cheerful and bore his affliction with patience. John F. Strain was a kind husband and loving father and was considerate and compassionate with all with whom he came in contact.

"None knew him but to love him
None named him but to praise him."

Funeral services were conducted by the Knights of Pythias, of which he was a member, and his remains were laid to rest in Centre Cemetery.

"No chilly winds, no poisonous breath
can reach that beautiful shore.
Where sickness and sorrow, pain and death
Are felt and feared no more."
