I am also researching a SMITH family from the Bradford/Luzerne county area. My Great grandfather's name was Charles SMITH. He was born in 1856/57. He married Margaret BYRNE. They lived around Red Rock area as Ckarles worked for the Central Penn Lumber company. Their children are:Mary I SMITH - married William ABBEY... lived in Mildred, Pa. Catherine E. I will be in touch soon with more info for you and to ask from you all, but for now, just know that I am particularly interested in: The HARVEYS: Tracey Monroe and Beatrice Marie (Lowrey?); she was born Bridget Mary Loughrey, 21 January 1885, in Shanaglish, County Galway, Ireland (I have all the info on her side from Ireland. Only lacking her papers re her arrival in Avoca in the early 1900s.) They married in the second decade of this century. My mother is 7th of their 11 children, Mary Ellen (born 6 May 1920 in Factoryville) married to Albert Robinson in Tunkhannock. The FOOTES: Arthur Delmer and Mary Ann (Bates); she was born 9 January 1900, I believe (possibly near Camptown...?) They have two living daughters, one son (who died as an infant; William?) and one living son (my father,) all still living: Wilhelmina Kathleen (Katy,) born 1919, married my mother's brother, Irving Monroe Harvey (twice!) and then in between, married John Sutton; Walter Kraig, born 13? April 1921, and Arlita (Tiny,) born in 1923? who married my mother's cousin, Richard Harvey, then married John Sutton's brother, Don. Katy still lives out on her farm at Sugar Run, I believe. I think Tiny lives near Tunkhannock (the new bridge) in the trailer park south of the river, on the east side of the road. I haven't been able to get ahold of her on my last few visits (in the past year or two.) If you can find a current address for her, I'd be grateful...! Dad married Ruth Wilbur from up in Binghamton, I have an extensive genealogy for them, but the Foote Family Association of America does not seem ready to go on line quite yet! I am looking for the immediate family history in the Tunkhannock and surrounding area. Also looking into the Bates family, too. I was adopted at age about 9 months, from St. Joseph Children's and Maternity Hospital in Dunmore (I was born there on 15 October 1939) by Helen Mildred Marie Kettle and Robert Michael Davitt. He was from Scranton, she was from Wilkes-Barre. Frank Kettle's family was from Forty-Fort. Frank had a cabin on the south side of the river over by Easton, I think it was. I found it once on my last visit, and took photos! I used to love to come up in the summers to Tunkhannock with him and his wife, my grandma, Jule Christopher, when I was only 7-11 years old. We'd stay for weeks at his old place; he and I would fish a lot... and I'd catch miniature frogs on the riverbanks! They had a coal stove and pump outside the door, and an outhouse a bit beyond the cabin. I loved it 'cause it was rustic, and Jule never minded how primitive it was...She called it his Camp. Searching for information concerning Col. Joseph BURGESS and his wife Sarah as well as any HITCHCOCK family members. Col. Burgess moved to the Forkston area from CT. around 1801 and is found in Windham Township (now Forkston Twp.) for many years. In 1810 he built the first sawmill in the Forkston area which was partially destroyed in the flood of 1850. He is buried in the Forkston cemetery near his wife, Sarah. His wife was reportedly Sarah Park(e). I am looking for proof of that fact. Joseph and Sarah had several children including my Great Grandmother, Lucia Burgess. Lucia Married Hiram Hitchcock from Forkston in 1828. I am also curious about the GAR marker at Col. Burgesses' grave since he died in 1847. Any info on the above will be appreciated. I suspect he was an early pioneer of Luzerne County (part of Wyoming county now). William Humphrey Taylor's father was Obadiah Taylor, died 1830, from Bolton CT. There may have been a contingent of CT families that moved to what is now Wyoming county about 1780-90, then lived there for about 50 years, and some left for CA. My grandmother Helena Master HARDING was born in Meshoppen Pa. Wyoming County. She was born Nov. 17, 1888.I cannot find a birth certificate on her. On her death certificate it states her father's last name as MASTER, mother unknown. I thought Harding was her maiden name. Married to Emma Decker b 1858 d? 1st child my Grandfather William B. Lance b October 21, 1874 d august 9, 1962 His siblings were Burton b 1876, and Maud b 1890.
