Researching the surname SMITH. Looking for anything on my G-grandmother Mary Jane SMITH, b 1864. She married Oscar WRIGHT in 1892 and settled in Rutland, PA. She had her mother's bible. Inside the front cover was noted "This is the bible of my dear old mother, Libbie A. Smith." An additional note listed Centermoreland, Wyoming Co. In Mary Jane SMITH's surrogate court documents of 1920, it listed a stock sale from the Commonwealth Telephone Compnay, Centermoreland, PA. Mary Jane had at least one brother John in PA and a sister Emily in Rochester, NY at the time of her death in 1919. I believe the Smith children were born in the town of Centermoreland. The mother's name could be listed as Libbie A. Smith or Elizabeth A. Smith. I do not know the name of the father. I am looking for the birth record for Eleanor or Elanora DeGROFT or DeGRAFT. Several census' from Minnesota from 1885-1900 indicate that she may have been born in Pennsylvania around 1825. It could be +/- 5 years either way. The 1885 census states she is 64; the 1890 says 64 and the 1900 says 74. I suspect the 1885 and 1900 are correct. Ms. DeGRAFT/DeGROFT married Jefferson WOOLFORD or WOLFORD. I'm not sure if that occurred in Pennsylvania. I don't know her parents' names. I would like to find her on a census somewhere with her parents in 1830 or later. That would be very helpful. I would appreciate any help I can get as I'm at the dead wall again.

My grandfather Nelson Norman (after whom I am named) was born in a tiny place near you called Starkville, about which I know nothing. He must have farmed there. The Wyoming County Historical Society got me a good bit of information, and now I want even more!
My great-grandfather Narcisse Normand came down to Pennsylvania from Canada, where his forebears had lived since about 1640. He married MaryRiley, born in Ireland. We know nothing else about her or her family. Any hope for help? What county was Syarkville in before it was absorbed into Wyoming? Now, as for a story------Narcisse anglicized his name to Nelson. For some reason he alone went to Southern Minnesota scouting for land. When he found some near Henderson he sent money back to transport his family westward. The relative receiving the money took it and ran, forcing Nelson to try once again to accumulate another grubstake. He did.
If anyone wants to know Nelson's ancestors and numerous descendants, I sent a notebook filled with records to the Wyoming Historical Society.

Ida is something of a mystsery. She was said to be adopted. She may have lived with George Pelham in LaPlume, PA. Her adoptive name may have been Kinsley.
