Berry Hill Cemetery

A tragedy has occurred. A cemetery with all its history, stories and people has be destroyed. Above is the only remaining stone to be seen at this cemetery in Orange County, Virginia. A bulldozer or tractor has bulldozed or plowed under all other stones. There are small hills of sod marking the location of many other stones. One can feel the give of the buried fence under foot as the old pre- Civil War cemetery is trod. I had one afternoon there. I left with tears in my eyes. This was once the home place of Uriel Mallory and his wife Malinda Welch and their many children. This is a site that could be saved and restored by those interested in Virginia History and Orange County History in particular. The stones are there just under the ground. The two men who own the place seem very nice and accommodating. I live in Texas or with permission I would be there digging. If anyone is interested in this site let me know and I will help what I can.
