Benjamin Davis MacEachern

Benjamin Davis MacEachern, RoadMaster, C.N.R., PEI

Benjamin Davis MacEachern, departed this life at the home of his son, Chester, Merchant, Hopefield, Queens County, P.E.I., April 22nd, 1931. Born in Belfast in 1847 he thus attained to the venerable age of 84 years. His wife predeceased him by thirteen years and his son John Sebastian in Cranbrook, B.C. about seven years ago. He is survived by ten of his family and one brother as follows: George in Detroit, James, Purdie, Cyrus, Everett in B.C., Chester in Hopefield and his brother Murdo in Cranbrook, B.C.

Mr. MacEachern was a railroad man of outstanding ability. Beginning as a young man on the track, by sheer merit he was gradually promoted to be RoadMaster of the Eastern Division of the C.N.R.P.E.I. retiring about thirteen years ago after over forty years of faithful and efficient service.

Mr. MacEachern died from natural causes. He took to bed a few moths ago and was tenderly cared for and nursed by his son Chester and his wife, to the end.

During the last visit of his Minister to him, about 24 hours before he left us, he said "I want to go". Where? "To the Better Land". And on what do you base your hope to get there? "On Christ", was the decisive and prompt reply. This sums up the faith and prospect of dear old Mr. MacEachern on the verge of eternity. The services at the home were conducted by the Rev. Allistar Murray., Presbyterian Church, Caledonia and at the grave in Little Sands beside his beloved partner by the FreeMasons, Montague Lodge, of which he was a member.

The pallbearers were Messrs. Murdo McPhee, John McDonald, Donald McDonald, Hugh McNeill, Roderick McKay and Ira Munn.

The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family and friends.
