MacLEAN, Rev. George Murray
MacLEAN, Rev. George Murray - 81, Truro, died May 9, 1993, in the home of his son, Rev. Glenn MacLean, Dartmouth. Born in Weymouth, he was a son of the late Daniel H. and Harriett (Hankinson) MacLean. Raised in Hopewell, he was educated in Pictou County and received a BA degree from Dalhousie University. In 1937, he graduated from Pine Hill Divinity Hall, Halifax. Following his ordination, he served in the following pastorates: Stairs Memorial United, Dartmouth (1937-42); St. And r e w ' s U n i t e d , Springhill (1942-47); St. Andrew's United, Wolfville (1947-54); Knox United, Glace Bay (1954-60); Bethany United, Halifax (1960-67); Trinity United, New Glasgow (1967-73); Beacon United, Yarmouth (1973-79) and First United, Truro (1980-86), where he served as minister of visitation. Besides church work, he was actively involved in community activities and served on many boards. He is survived by his wife, the former Norma Lydiard; three sons, Leland, Lower Sackville; Rev. Glenn, Dartmouth; Brian, River John; eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Rev. Frank, Rev. Ward, Jack; a grandson. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth. Family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in First United Church Parlor, Truro. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in First United Church, Rev. Chalmers Hatcher officiating. Private burial will be in MacLean Cemetery, Hopewell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MacLean/Lydiard Bursary or the memorial fund of First United Church, Truro.
