MATHESON, Ernest - 92, Glengarry, Pictou County, died February 23, 1993, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Glengarry, he was a son of the late James Hugh and Margaret (Fraser-Cochrane) Matheson. He was a lifelong member of St. Columba United Church, Hopewell and keenly supported it's recent renovations. He had worked as a woodsman, farmer, mail courier and with Department of Highways as a foreman. He was instrumental in restoring the New Lairg Pioneer Cemetery and was a charter member of Nova Scotia Clan Matheson Society. He was a resident of Valley View Villa for the past year. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Mrs. George Langille), Stellarton; four sons, Douglas, Robert, both of Glengarry; Neil, Hopewell; Albert, Lower Sackville; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Margaret Martin; half-brother, Otto Cochrane; half-sister, Lena (Cochrane) Archibald. The body is in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, visiting 7-9 p.m. tonight, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in St. Columba United Church, Rev. Marjorie Cornelius officiating. Burial will be in Lorne Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Columba Building Fund, Izaak Walton Killam Children's Hospital or any charity.
