Margaret B. (MacDonald) MacEachern

"Mrs. Chester MacEachern The residents of Hopefield and vicinity were saddened by the sudden death on Friday, May 18th of Mrs. Chester MacEachern in her 63rd year. Mrs. MacEachern had been in her usual good health but was stricken suddenly with a heart attack and died before medical help could reach her.

Following the sudden death of her husband in 1956, Mrs. MacEachern succeeded him in the duties of postmaster which she faithfully fulfilled up until the evening of her passing.

Born in Hopefield on August 21st, 1897, the daughter of the late Daniel and Catherine MacDonald, "Maggie" as she was known to her many friends will be sadly missed by all as she was a good neighbour, always ready and willing to help out in times of trouble. She will be missed most of all in the home where she was a good wife and mother.

Left to cherish her memory of a loving mother are seven daughters and three sons, Mary (Mrs. David Conkie), Boston, Mass.; Jean (Mrs. Vernon Duck), York; Janet (Mrs. William Baker), Charlottetown; Catherine (Mrs. Robert Ross), Pictou, N.S.; Blanche (Mrs. James Paradis), Abilene, Texas; Florence (Mrs. Arthur Jenkins), Marshfield; Maud(Mrs. Bill Pidgeon), York; Ben at home, Cryus of Charlottetown and William of Toronto. A grandson, William Conkie resided with her. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Christene (Mrs. William J. MacKay) and Elizabeth (Mrs. David Glover) both of Murray River, Alex of Charlottetown and Ernest of Orwell.

The largely attended funeral was held on Monday, May 16, from the Little Sands United Church under the direction of the Montague Furnishing Company and was conducted by Rev. Farquar MacKinnon of the Valleyfield Charge assisted by Mr. Bryan of the Murray Harbour Charge. The hymns sung were "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Abide With Me". The choir very feelingly rendered "Good Night and Good Morning".

The remains of a loving mother were tenderly laid to rest in the family plot in Little Sands Cemetery to await the resurrection morn.

The pallbearers were Leon MacPhee, Daniel Fraser, Stuart MacKay, Alden Blue, Lester MacLean and Harry MacLeod.

Flowerbearers were John Ross, John Archie MacFadyen, Robert Stewart, Malcolm Livingston, Joe Kennedy and Jim MacFarlane.
