MACKIE, William Herbert - 82, 453 Pleasant St., New Glasgow, formerly of San Diego, Calif., passed away Saturday, March 13, 1999 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born June 6, 1916, in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late William and Mary (McQueen) Mackie. He was a veteran of the Second World War, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow, and served his country with the Nova Scotia Highlanders in the invasion of France. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a retired electrical contractor. Surviving are his former wife, Shirley (Mason) Mackie; sons, Glenn (Beverly) Mackie, British Columbia; Blaine Mackie, Trenton; Faber (Trish) Mackie, New Glasgow; Garry (Teresa) Mackie, El Cajun, Calif.; daughter, Penny (Jon) Sartori, El Cajun, Calif.; grandchildren, Glenn, Sherri, Lynne, Melissa, Faber, Crystal, Stephen, Derek, Irene, Devin, and Kaitlyn; great-granddaughter, Jordan; sister-in-law, Ruby Bernard, Montreal; special nephew, Robert Lamb and his wife Margaret, Dartmouth. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Bunty Mackie; brother, George. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 16, 1999 in Trinity United Church, Rev. Norman Marple officiating. Cremation to follow. Burial in Lorne Street Cemetery.
