MURRAY [Bond], Elsie
MURRAY (Bond), Elsie - 100, Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Saturday March 6, 1999, in the home. Born in Springhill, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Dora (Simpson) Bond. She grew up in Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School, Provincial Normal College, Mount Allison University and Dalhousie University. She commenced her teaching career in 1918, at West Brook, Cumberland County. Prior to her marriage, she taught in Milton, Antigonish and River John. After the death of her husband, she resumed teaching and taught in Lyon's Brook and high schools in River Hebert, Westville, Tatamagouche and Fairview, Halifax, before retiring in 1970. Even in retirement, she continued as a tutor to anyone who asked for her help. She was an inspired and inspiring teacher and her proudest accomplishment was the success of her students, her greatest pleasure, their lasting friendship. River John was her home from the time of her marriage in 1928, but for the past five years she was a resident of the home. She is survived by one daughter, Janice (Mrs. Christopher Gill), River John; two grandsons, John and James Gill; one nephew, Clifford Jones; several great-nieces and one great nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. J. Stewart Murray; infant son, Clifford; two brothers, Clifford and Stewart Bond; three sisters, Ada, Florence and Gertrude Jones. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999, in the Salem United Church, River John. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, a remembrance may be made to Mount Allison University, the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to MacLeod's Funeral Service, River John.
