MacPHERSON, Mary Evelyn [McGillivray], RN
MacPHERSON, Mary Evelyn, RN - Former resident of Sydney, Truro and Antigonish, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, in R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Born in Low Point, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Vincent J. and Maude (Ling) McGillivray. She was a graduate of New Waterford General Hospital School of Nursing. She completed a post-graduate course in Saint John, N.B., in nursing. She was a former superintendent of New Waterford General Hospital and also filled the offices of historian and business manager at the hospital. She was a longtime member of St. Ninian's Cathedral, Antigonish, and CWL, a lifetime member of St. Martha's Hospital Auxiliary, having held the offices of president and past president. She was a loving wife of her late husband, George, having been married for 55 years. She had enjoyed her life, blessed with a natural sense of wit and humor. Her love of family and enduring friendship and abiding faith will be remembered and treasured by her family members and countless friends nurtured during her lifetime. Surviving are sons, George, Toronto; Sandy, Ayr, Ont.; Brian, Antigonish; Barry, Montreal; Robie, Halifax; daughters, Jeanne, Carole, both of Antigonish; sister, Pauline (Mrs. Marvin Nathanson), Halifax; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predecease by son, D'arcy David; daughter, Deborah in infancy; brother, Vincent James. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Low Point, Cape Breton, Rev. Robie MacPherson officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the Friends of R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home or St. Martha's Hospital Auxiliary, Antigonish.
