CAMERON, Margaret Jane (Janie) - 101, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Willowdale, Pictou Co., died September 18, 1997, in the Villa. She was born in and was a lifelong resident of Willowdale. She was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church, East River St. Marys. A lifelong teacher, she established a school in Rocky Mountain over 70 years ago and had taught in various other schools in Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough counties. She had worked tirelessly for the Red Cross, Women's Institute and the Atlantic Mission Society. The Canadian Red Cross Society consider her a "friend for life" and had honored her on the occasion of her 100th birthday for exemplifying the values of the Red Cross throughout her 70 years of volunteering. Described an independent and strong woman, she had lived at home until she was 97 and was still tutoring children, mainly in math, and hosting prayer meetings until the age of 95. She was a guest of Valley View Villa for the past five years. Surviving is her cousin, Margaret (Mrs. Eddy Munroe), Willowdale. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert E. Cameron. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Saturday, both in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, Rev. Lee MacNaughton officiating. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, East River St. Marys. Family flowers only. Donations to Valley View Villa, Riverton, or any charity.
