GRANTON - Simeon Smith, a long-time and well-known resident of Granton, passed away on Wednesday morning around 9:30 at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Conley, Alma Highway, with whom he had been residing for eight years. Mr. Smith was 93 last March and was born at Moser River. He came to Granton to live at the age of 10. He worked for a number of years at the Drummond shipping pier and on the surface for the Intercolonial Coal Company Limited. He was twice married. His first wife predeceased him 57 years ago, and his second wife eight years ago. Surviving are three daughters, Ella (Mrs. Prosper Marshall), Red Rock, Ontario: Jane (Mrs.) Alex Stewart), Scarboro, Ont.: and Sadie (Mrs. Conley), Alma Highway; one son, Frank, Hanmon, Ont.; 13 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a half sister, Mrs. William Emery, Ballarat St., Westville. Two sons predeceased him: James, Westville, and Charles, following wounds received in World War I. The remains will rest at M. and Mrs. Conley's home, from where the funeral will be held. The time has not been announced, pending word from relatives. Rev. Joseph Cathcart will officiate.
